NuGet unavailable in some Express editions.

I have the following Express editions installed:

Visual C# Developer
Visual Web Developer
Windows Phone

I installed NuPack.vsix from the CodePlex site and it only showed up in Visual Web Developer. Is that an oversight or is it by design?

We won't support VS C# 2010, nor VB.NET 2010.

dotnetjunky wrote Oct 7, 2010 at 4:21 AM

this is a known limitation of the current release. we're looking at supporting other SKUs when we release v1.

eddie_butt wrote Oct 8, 2010 at 12:08 AM

Thanks for the quick response, dotnetjunky.

With all the commentary on the web about how powerful and easy RubyGems is, I've been wanting to join the party for quite some time. Looking forward to your next release.

Haacked wrote Oct 13, 2010 at 11:36 PM

Luan, do you know what needs to happen to support this?

dotnetjunky wrote Dec 1, 2010 at 9:28 PM

As discussed, we are not supporting other SKUs besides VWD for this release. Assign this bug to you to decide.

Any news since the release of v1.1?

Haacked wrote Feb 16, 2011 at 3:50 PM

Nope, but I'm following up on it.

kmoth wrote Apr 19, 2011 at 9:07 PM

any updates on this issue?

pvandervelde wrote May 9, 2011 at 9:56 PM

Any news on this issue? After seeing the cool Mix11 NuGet presentation I'm really keen to get started with NuGet but this issue is blocking that :(

pvandervelde wrote Jun 13, 2011 at 10:06 PM

Any chance this is going to make it for the 1.4 release? It would be really good to have because that would give people an additional cool tool that can be used with Visual C# express.

dotnetjunky wrote Jun 13, 2011 at 10:32 PM

1.4 is already locked down. Unfortunately this bug didn't make it. There are some technical issues that need to be sorted out. Stay tuned.

dotnetjunky wrote Jun 14, 2011 at 6:05 AM

Phil, I assign this back to you to handle the logistics.

Haacked wrote Jun 27, 2011 at 5:00 PM

Unfortunately, we've learned that without changes to Visual Studio itself, we won't be able to support all the express editions in a single VSIX. We'd have to create versions of NuGet specific to each express edition which creates a lot of overhead. We're trying to get this issue fixed for the next version of Visual Studio. I'm moving this to the backlog.

aalmada wrote Jul 2, 2011 at 6:29 PM

I'm working the realese of a development framework and many of my users will use VC# Express. I started to port all the installer mess into NuGet packages when I realised it would not work on Express....

kmoth wrote Jul 7, 2011 at 11:21 PM

Wait for the next version of Visual Studio? Really, what's the point of nuget if so many devs won't be able to use it? Come on, I don't think adding versions for c# & wp7 express is asking too much.

aalmada wrote Aug 4, 2011 at 11:42 AM

I don't like to whine about free and open-source projects but I agree with kmoth as many of my potential users won't be able to use nuget. My current installer supports all VS versions and I won't replace with nuget while Express are not supported... :-(

xerocontrol wrote Sep 19, 2011 at 3:35 PM

I would really like to have a VSIX for Visual C# Express. I do .NET Micro Framework (netmf) development, and there are NuGet packages I would like to install in my NETMF project, but can't because the VSIX for NuGet only works in VWD and full VS versions. Please make a VSIX for Visual Studio 2010 C# Express Edition. Please :)

s0ftimage wrote Nov 18, 2011 at 3:20 AM

it would be great to get nuget support in Visual C# Express

nharris wrote Nov 18, 2011 at 8:10 PM

Visual Studio 11 Express ?

ShiftKey wrote May 21, 2012 at 3:19 AM

Given the changes to the VS11 SKU names (and no support for non-Metro desktop development) are there any plans to revisit this task?

aalmada wrote May 24, 2012 at 10:32 AM

The new changes in the VS11 Express also leave out the .NET MF development. This means that it will be impossible to use NuGet for .NET MF projects in VS Express....

lukepuplett wrote Jun 29, 2012 at 1:27 PM

Hi all - what's the status of this today June 2012? Did we get NuGet support for VS C# Express 2010?

dotnetjunky wrote Jul 10, 2012 at 7:08 PM

NO we will not support VS C# 2010 or VB.NET 2010
