Installing a nuget extension does not work for me

Apr 26, 2012 at 10:42 AM

I'm running NuGet.exe on a win XP SP3 machine and I'm trying to install the package Nuget Extend - AddConsoleExtension. Since XP lacks %LocalAppData% the suggested installation instruction from http://nuget.org/packages/addconsoleextension does not work.

NuGet.exe Install /ExcludeVersion /OutputDir %LocalAppData%\NuGet\Commands AddConsoleExtension

Instead I used:

c:\>NuGet.exe Install /ExcludeVersion /OutputDir %AppData%\NuGet\Commands AddConsoleExtension
Successfully uninstalled 'nuget.copy.extension 1.1.0.0'.
Successfully installed 'nuget.copy.extension 1.1.0.0'.

However, when I try to use the new command nuget doesn't recognize it.

C:\>nuget addextension
Unknown command: 'addextension'

So, what did I miss? Is there a workaround?

Using sysinternals process monitor I found that nuget on windows XP is actually fetching the commands from

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\NuGet\Commands

Manually setting %LocalAppData% seems to be working:

set=C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\

Hi Daniel,

Your post was helpful for me, but I'm still having problems.

My goal is to use the NuGet Copy Extension. I have installed the NuGet Extend using the command:
NuGet.exe Install /ExcludeVersion /OutputDir "D:\Documents and Settings\myuser\Local Settings\Application Data\NuGet\Commands" AddConsoleExtension
After that, when I try to execute the command:
NuGet.exe addextension nuget.copy.extension
I’m receiving the following error message:
Method not found: 'Void NuGet.Commands.InstallCommand..ctor(NuGet.IPackageRepositoryFactory, NuGet.IPackageSourceProvider)'.
Do you know what I am doing wrong?

Thank you!
