Testing Local NuGet Packages

I've yet to find a great tutorial on how, using the command-line only, to create and test packages before publishing. Note that I specifically do not want to use the Package Manager in Visual Studio. Ideally, I'd like to use "nuget pack" on my local .nuspec file, then turn around and run "nuget install <something> -o C:\foo" on the local package to verify that the correct dependencies are resolved and downloaded. However, I'm having challenges finding what that <something> should be. Is such a thing even possible? My search-fu is failing me in finding where such an animal would be documented. If someone has blogged about this particular scenario, I'd love a pointer to it as well as the search string I could've used to find it.
