Package install/update fails due to sourcesafe prompt

If you open a project that is under source control and go into manage references and install or update a reference it will hang if the .csproj file has not already been checked out.

You can move the NuGet Installing.../Updating... window out of the way and see that Visual SourceSafe has thrown up a prompt "File xyz.csproj is already checked out..." and it's waiting for you to choose what to do.  Since the nuget window is modal there is nothing you can do other than end the process in task manager, check out the file and try it again.

Does anyone know if there is a workaround to this problem, other than just checking out the project first?

We have it fixed in 1.6 in which we make the progress dialog modeless instead of modeal. We'll release 1.6 soon, but until then you can use the NuGet Package Console to install packages. The console doesn't have that issue.

Awesome!  Thanks for the quick response and I'll be looking forward to that new release.
